The Bible tells us that we are to put on the mind of Christ. But How?
The church reminds us that to over come evil we must have the mind of Christ, but what does that really mean?
Having the mind of Christ is essential to having Victory over Satan and the forces of evil.
When you know how to think like Christ, you can behave like Christ and you can say to the devil – YOU HAVE NO POWER OVER ME!
Learning this fundamental truth was crucial in my own walk with God. Without this wisdom, I couldn’t be who I wanted to be. I felt totally overwhelmed by temptation. Every urge and every evil idea caused me guilt and shame. And I had no idea what to do about it.
Modern Christian Women Must Adopt The Mind of Christ
I prayed, Lord, please take this temptation away. And when I got off of my knees I was still wanting the temptation.
When I asked for help, well meaning individuals told me I need to increase my prayers. The told me to keep reading my Bible. These are great suggestions and foundational to any Christian’s walk with God. But it’s like someone giving you eggs and butter when you want to make a cake.
Eggs are great. Butter is great. But I didn’t know what to do with them!
In my quest to become everything Christ wants me to be, I learned some excellent techniques for making
Overcoming negative feelings

These are questions that I intend to tackle over the next few weeks.
I’ll be exploring the following topics:
- The difference between guilt, shame and conviction.
- Strategies for disaplining and directing our minds.
- How to stop worrying.
- Why Christians should never neglect their mental health.
- How to stop over thinking.
- The Problem with reasoning.
- God’s purpose for our brain.
I will also be recommending some additional resources for you might like to check out to further develop your understanding
Battlefield of the Mind
One of the books I’m currently reading is; Battlefield of The Mind by Joyce Myers.
It’s been in our house for a while and I’ve been meaning to read it for ages, but I’ve always put it off for another day. Now that I’m half way through I can see why. She shares some valuable insights into the battle we wage against Satan within our minds. Truths, that when exposed, have the power to set us free.
She makes an important point that I want to share with you.
“Right thinking has nothing to do with salvation. Salvation is based soley in the blood of Jesus, His death on the cross and His resurrection. Many people will be in Heaven because they truly accepted Jessus as their saviour, but many of thse same people will never have walked in victory or enjoyed the good plan God had for their lives because they did not get their mind renewed accourding to His word.”Joyce Myers – Battlefield of the Mind
This is so crucial to understand. Just because you’ve accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and savior doesn’t mean that the battle is over. In fact, once you receive salvation, the battle has just begun.
And I’ve seen a lot of people criticizing the idea of self-help. They say that Christians don’t need self-help they need Jesus.
Listen, we all need Jesus. And, assuming we ARE Christians then we have Jesus. But having Jesus is just the begining. There’s so much more.
When we say that All we need is Jesus, while “technically” correct, we are failing to truly appreciate what he has done for us.
Repent – Change your Mind
When Jesus was first beginning His ministry, John the Baptist was already at work calling the world to repent. The word repent means to change your mind. Change your mind and acknowledge that God is right and always has been right and you were wrong. His ways are higher and greater than ours.
“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. “2 Chronicals 7:14
This turning away and choosing to go in a different direction is what self help is all about. And YES, the Holy Spirit is the one who empowers us to do that, but we still have to make the choice.Turning away going in a different direction is what self-help is all about. The Holy Spirit doesn’t force us to do anything. And I think it’s hard when we have that false expectation that God will do things for us. The Bible is a story that shows us over and over again that God wants us to take responsibility for our lives. He wants us to go and conquor the enemy. He tells us that we’ve already won the battle, but he still expects us to go out, be fearless and conquor the giants.
Fighting the battles.
In order to help you fight those battles, I’m going to be sharing with you some really important tactics that will give you an advantage in the battle.
I’m also currently reading the book of Joshua, and I am noticing how many different battle strategies the children of Isreal used to overtake the cities within the promised land. Of course, there was the famous march around the city and shouting technique at Jericho. But there was also the ambush at Ai. Sometimes God told them to kill everyone and everything, and sometimes they were allowed to keep the sheep and donkeys.
My point is this, different situations require different stategies and techniques. In order to use the strategies you must understand the overarching principals, but you can’t stop there. You must implement them into your life so that you can fulful the promises of God.
Being a chosen people wasn’t enough. The children of Isreal had to walk / work it out. And so do you and I.
Develop the Mind of Christ
I don’t have all the answers, but I am committed to transforming my mind to the mind of Christ with the help of the Holy Spirit. If you would like to come along on this journey I’d be happy to have you as a fellow travel companion.
One last thought I’d like you to think about.
The Bible was written at a time when most people were focused purely on survival. If you didn’t plant some seeds and take care of your fields you wouldn’t have any food and you wouldn’t survive.
If you didn’t keep watch out for wild animals and enemies you wouldn’t survive.
There were a lot of things that could kill you and all that danger kept you on your toes. And God encouraged his people to trust in H
But these days it’s a LOT easier for most of us to survive. And since were not fighting to stay alive
And, if we’re not careful, there are many opportunities for us to go astray. First in our minds, then in our actions. Now more than ever we have a tendency to worry, have anxiety, depression and crippling fear. And if we do not manage our minds, they will naturally lead us to sin.
Masturbation, gluttony, fornication, addiction, rage, violence, adultery, abortion, every sin, starts in the mind. When we learn to control our thoughts by adopting the mind of Christ we can choose actions that are in alignment with the will of God and be victorious over sin.
Most Christians do not object to the idea of knowing some basic first aid, so that if we get hurt, we know how to deal with the wound so that it doesn’t get worse. We know that God gave us amazing bodies that will heal, and yet we still use bandaids and casts etc, to take care of injuries.
Self-help is first aid for the mind
But when it comes to mental health, as christians there tends to be this fear around taking care of our minds. My brain, your brain… brains are one of the most facinating creations of God. It’s vital that we learn to take care of them. It’s just an organ, the same as your heart. And there’s nothing wrong with practicing good mental health.
You can hire a personal trainer to help you develop your muscles through a series of exercises, and you can also hire a Christian Life Coach like meto help you train your brain so that you can be the best possible version of yourself.
The Mind is an amazing tool that you can to advance the Kingdom of God for the Glory of God. I hope you’ll invest in sharpening your tool.
